X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) is the best way to test gold. It is 100% non-destructive! This is a video tutorial for how to test gold with a handheld XRF. While this video features the Olympus Vanta GX, there are many other handheld and benchtop XRF units on the market that can test precious metals.
To test gold you will need:
- A XRF analyzer with the "Precious Metals" calibration.
- At least 1 Gold Certified Reference Material (CRM).
- Clean XRF Windows for your analyzer.
- Training for how to get the right results, every time.

Gold results should show a proper Karat weighting when the measurement is done properly. Analyzers not properly calibrated for precious metals analysis will not read properly.
