For orogenic gold systems, Carlin-type deposits, epithermal systems, and intrusion-related gold deposits, the pathfinder suite varies but the principle is consistent. XRF sees the geochemical halo around the gold even when it can't see the gold itself.

In high-grade gold deposits where gold concentrations reach the tens to hundreds of ppm level, XRF can contribute direct gold measurements to the dataset. Visible gold in quartz veins, high-grade bonanza zones, and coarse free gold occurrences may be detectable by XRF at concentrations that provide useful information for grade control and sample prioritization.
