Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What applications is the SciAps X-50 handheld XRF best suited for?

The SciAps X-50 is designed for alloy identification (PMI), scrap sorting, mining and exploration, soil testing, and precious metals analysis. It performs best in applications focused on transition and heavy metals, making it a strong choice for recyclers, field geologists, and environmental professionals.

Can the SciAps X-50 measure aluminum or other light elements?

No, the X-50 is not designed to measure light elements such as Mg, Al, Si, S, or P. It can perform limited aluminum alloy sorting (MLC’s, 2000 and 7000 series), but it is not suitable for full light element analysis.

If your application requires light element capability, consider upgrading to:

• SciAps X-200 → a more budget-friendly option for light element alloy analysis
• SciAps X-550 → a top-performance model with significantly improved light element sensitivity and speed

How fast is the SciAps X-50 compared to other handheld XRF analyzers?

The X-50 operates at speeds up to 2X faster than comparable analyzers using similar detector technology. Its reengineered internal geometry and optimized X-ray tube design allow for rapid, reliable results in both field and industrial environments.

What if I need better performance for gold, silver, or low-level elements?

If your application involves low concentration detection—such as gold (Au), silver (Ag), or other trace elements—you may benefit from a higher sensitivity instrument.

The SciAps X-550 Geo is specifically designed for these applications, offering enhanced sensitivity for low-level elemental detection in mining and exploration workflows.

Which XRF model is best for rare earth elements (REE) analysis?

For rare earth element (REE) analysis, the SciAps X-555 is the preferred model. It features a 55 kV X-ray tube, which provides superior excitation of higher atomic number elements and improves performance across REE applications.

This makes the X-555 a better choice for Rare Earth Element exploration.

How often should I replace the measurement window for the SciAps X-50?

Replace the measurement window when it becomes torn or dirty. This is critical for maintaining analyzer performance and preventing damage.

Who should choose the SciAps X-50 over other XRF models?

The X-50 is ideal for users who need a cost-effective handheld XRF analyzer focused on heavy metals and do not require light element detection.

• Scrap and recycling operations
• Manufacturing QA/QC teams
• Mining and exploration professionals
• Environmental consultants

For users needing expanded capabilities (light elements, trace detection, or REE analysis), upgrading to models like the X-200, X-505, X-550, or X-555 may be more appropriate.
