Replace Dirty or Damaged Windows to Keep Your XRF Analyzer Accurate
Every accurate reading your handheld XRF analyzer delivers starts with one small, easy-to-overlook component: the measurement window!
The XRF measurement window is the thin film that sits between the X-ray tube and the sample you're testing. It protects the internal optics of your XRF analyzer while letting X-rays pass through with minimal interference. A worn, torn, or contaminated window doesn't just look bad, but it directly affects the accuracy of every test you run. Low readings, inconsistent results, and failed calibration checks often trace back to a measurement window that's overdue for replacement.
If you're noticing drift in your results, visible damage on the window film, or your analyzer just isn't performing the way it used to, it's probably time for a replacement XRF measurement window.
Why the XRF Measurement Window Matters More Than You Think
Handheld XRF analyzers are precision instruments, and the measurement window is one of the most heavily used components on the entire unit. Every single test, trigger pull, sample, scrap piece, soil sample, and solder joint sends X-rays directly through that window.
Over time, the window film picks up scratches, punctures, dust, and general wear from constant contact with rough metal edges, gritty soil, and abrasive material surfaces. Prolene and Kapton windows are thin by design (that's what makes them X-ray transparent) but that same thinness means they don't last forever.
A damaged XRF measurement window can let in dust, moisture, and debris that contaminate the internal detector. It can also change how X-rays pass through to your sample, throwing off the elemental readings your business depends on. Whether you're doing PMI, scrap sorting, precious metals testing, soil screening, or RoHS compliance work, a compromised window puts the accuracy of every measurement at risk.
Replacing your XRF measurement window regularly isn't optional maintenance, it's part of keeping your analyzer running at the accuracy level it was built for.
Replacement XRF Measurement Windows for Every Major Brand
Whatever XRF analyzer you're running, chances are we carry the exact replacement measurement window it needs.
We stock genuine and compatible measurement windows for Thermo Scientific Niton, Olympus and Evident Vanta, Bruker, SciAps, Hitachi, Rigaku, Spectro, Viken Detection, Gemoro, and more. Prolene and Kapton film options are available depending on your instrument model and application requirements, so you're not stuck guessing which window fits your analyzer.
Every replacement XRF measurement window we sell is built to the same specifications as the original component. No compromises on film thickness, X-ray transparency, or fit. You get a window that performs like new, right out of the box.
Niton XL2 Windows-
Available in Prolene and Polypropylene variants!
- Prolene windows allow for light element analysis and are typical in the Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) models including the Niton XL2 950 and Niton XL2 980. Still, you may have a custom handheld XRF built for your application. If so, check to see which windows came with your analyzer and use of those. (Part Number 447-33771 Previous Part Number 187-1454)
- Polypropylene windows are X-Ray Grade, 1 mil thick, polypropylene thin film with low impurities. While they do offer more protection than their Prolene counterparts, they do not allow for light element analysis. Polypropylene windows go with all Pin Diode handheld XRFs which do not see light elements based on their design. (Part Number 187-1555)
Niton XL2 100G Windows-
These windows are commonly replaced during daily use in scrap yards, fabrication shops, and PMI environments where analyzers are exposed to dust, metal shavings, and rough handling. Designed for Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 100G (PIN diode models). Made from XRF-grade polypropylene construction, these windows help protect the analyzer during everyday use.
Niton XL2 100P Windows-
This XRF grade polypropylene window is a low-impurity film designed for use with the Niton XL2 100P analyzers that utilize PIN diode detectors. These windows provide added protection in rugged field environments. They serve as a reliable, cost-effective solution for maintaining analyzer performance while safeguarding the internal detector.
Olympus Vanta Element Windows-
These Kapton XRF Windows are OEM-recommended thin-film protective windows designed to shield the sensitive detector and X-ray path of your analyzer. These consumable Kapton windows preserve the accuracy of your measurements and protect against physical damage, dust, oil, and sample debris, especially during routine field testing of metals, soils, plastics, or electronics. Each Kapton window is engineered for minimal X-ray attenuation, ensuring high transmission and reliable readings while protecting the analyzer's critical components.
Olympus Vanta C-Series Windows-
These XRF windows are OEM-recommended thin-film protective windows designed to shield the sensitive detector and X-ray path of your analyzer. These consumable windows preserve the accuracy of your measurements and protect against physical damage, dust, oil, and sample debris—especially during routine field testing of metals, soils, plastics, or electronics. Each window is engineered for minimal X-ray attenuation, ensuring high transmission and reliable readings while protecting the analyzer's critical components.
- Kapton Mesh-Backed Prolene Windows are an ultra-thin polypropylene film backed with a Kapton mesh. Made for standard field testing or lab analysis where ambient temperatures and sample conditions are moderate.
-
High Temperature Kapton Measurement Windows are made from a specialized high-temp-resistant film (polyimide blend with thermal stabilization) designed for surface testing of hot samples or aggressive environments, like foundries, weld inspection, heat-affected zones, and petrochemical testing. Suitable for brief exposure to elevated surface temperatures (consult user manual for limits) and when testing freshly welded or recently cast materials where standard Prolene films may melt or deform.
Olympus Vanta M-Series Windows-
The replacement windows for the Olympus Vanta M-Series XRF analyzers include both Prolene Windows for standard use and High Temperature Windows for elevated temperature or aggressive environments. Each window is precision-manufactured for consistent X-ray transmission, detector protection, and easy field replacement.
-
Prolene Measurement Windows are made from an ultra-thin polypropylene film for optimal transmission of low-energy X-rays—ideal for detecting light elements like Mg, Al, Si, P, and S. Used for general metals analysis, mining, soil, PMI, alloy verification, and RoHS screening, as well as standard field testing or lab analysis where ambient temperatures and sample conditions are moderate
- High Temperature Kapton Measurement Windows are made from a specialized high-temp-resistant film (polyimide blend with thermal stabilization) designed for surface testing of hot samples or aggressive environments, like foundries, weld inspection, heat-affected zones, and petrochemical testing. Suitable for brief exposure to elevated surface temperatures (consult user manual for limits) and when testing freshly welded or recently cast materials where standard Prolene films may melt or deform.
SciAps X-550 Windows-
The replacement Kapton or Prolene measurement windows for the SciAps X-550 are designed to protect the detector assembly of the SciAps X-550 handheld XRF analyzer while allowing X-rays to pass through for accurate elemental analysis during alloy identification, PMI inspection, and precious metals testing.
- Prolene Windows when analysis requires light elements. For many X-550 handheld XRF analyzers, this is the only window you will ever use.
- Kapton Turnings Windows when analyzing turnings. Make sure to disable the light element x-ray beam in the settings and run only heavy elements. These are stick on windows that adhere to the front of your device.
SciAps X-200 Windows-
