These analyzers are strong performers for precious metals testing but fall slightly behind the S-Tier instruments in terms of not being the current model, being misaligned from the market, user feedback, or overall performance.

The Olympus Vanta Element offers a rugged and simple handheld platform that can be used for precious metals testing. It is the previous version of the Vanta being a version 1 instead of a version 2 Vanta platform. It remains a great preowned option to buy in 2026 and is still supported by Evident.
The SciAps PowerHouse Precious Metals Analyzer, also marketed as the Gemoro XRF Assay, is designed for jewelry and gold testing applications and offers solid analytical performance.
This is a brand new benchtop XRF and while we have not yet seen one test live here at Alloy Geek, we respect the underlying platform this XRF is built around. SciAps makes great instruments. While this XRF only made A-Tier in 2026, it may get bumped up to S-Tier after we finally try one out later this year.
The Gemoro XRF / SciAps X-50 is another handheld analyzer used in precious metals testing environments. It offers portable analysis capabilities but does not quite reach the performance levels of the S-Tier analyzers.
For some reason, we just prefer to use other handheld XRF analyzers on the market. Don't get us wrong, this XRF unit is great, but catch us using the SciAps X-5 / Gemoro XRF Pro instead.
These analyzers can still be useful for precious metals testing, particularly in secondary markets or budget-conscious operations.
The Niton XL3t remains a popular choice in the pre-owned XRF market. While it is an older generation analyzer, it can still perform precious metals analysis effectively in many applications.
This handheld XRF is too expensive to buy new, even in 2026, but there seems to be plenty of these on the secondary market.
The Olympus GoldXpert is a benchtop XRF analyzer designed for jewelry testing environments. While capable, it lacks some of the portability advantages of modern handheld instruments.
It also can no longer be repaired. While it remains a great option, you have some leverage at getting a lower price on this model.

Still, the Deltas remain a great budget buy in 2026.

This is "too much XRF" for what we need in the precious metals space. Still, this is a great buy if you can find one with precious metals on the secondary market.

We see quite a few of these on the secondary market. As long as you have a precious metals mode, this will work well for you in 2026, regardless of model.
The Spectro xSORT XHH04 is another handheld analyzer primarily used for metal analysis and recycling applications. While Spectro claims this unit can measure precious metals, we just haven't seen one running yet.
This paired with the higher price point of this handheld XRF, we don't expect to see many of these deployed in 2026.
The Bruker S1 Titan is a capable handheld XRF analyzer used in many industrial applications but is less frequently used for jewelry and precious metals testing.
This unit likely has a higher price point (we're still hopeful for better entry-levels deals in 2026).
Also, Bruker moved their manufacturing to Malaysia and metaphorically peace'd out of the handheld XRF conversation in North America and Europe. Yes, you can still buy these, but there will be supply chain issues.
These analyzers are older platforms that are generally not recommended for precious metals testing today due to outdated technology or limitations compared to modern instruments.
The Innov-X Alpha is an early generation handheld XRF analyzer that has largely been replaced by more advanced systems.
You may see these on sites like eBay or some resellers websites. Buyer beware these may not work at all for you.
P.S. They run on an old iPaq that predates the blackberry (yuck).
The Hitachi X-MET5000 and X-MET7000 series represent older handheld XRF platforms that are no longer competitive with modern analyzers for precious metals testing.
While you may still see some working in the field, these units are just too old for us to recommend in 2026.
