Description

Certified reference material for 309 stainless steel (UNS S30900), intended for XRF and spark OES calibration, verification, and quality control.

The 309 Stainless Steel CRM is designed for XRF and spark optical emission spectroscopy (OES) applications where accurate verification of high-chromium, heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel chemistry is required.

309 stainless steel is commonly used in high-temperature and oxidation-resistant applications, where elevated chromium and nickel content are critical to performance. This reference material supports reliable measurement of those key alloying elements, along with supporting minor and trace constituents used to confirm 309 chemistry.

The CRM is supplied as a solid metallic disc, providing a stable and repeatable surface for XRF and OES analysis.

XRF & OES Notes

  • Major alloying elements (Cr, Ni, Fe, Mn) are readily measurable by XRF and spark OES
  • Carbon (C) and Nitrogen (N) are included for full alloy context but are not measurable by handheld XRF
  • High-chromium austenitic grades like 309 are best verified using handheld XRF or laboratory OES systems

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this reference material used for?
This CRM is used for calibration, verification, and quality control of XRF and spark OES analyzers when analyzing 309 stainless steel.

Is this suitable for handheld XRF analyzers?
Yes. Chromium, nickel, iron, and manganese in 309 stainless steel are well suited for verification using handheld XRF analyzers.

Can this be used for spark OES?
Yes. The solid disc form and certified homogeneity make it suitable for spark OES calibration and performance checks.

Does this include carbon and nitrogen?
Yes. Carbon and nitrogen are included to represent full alloy chemistry, but they are not measurable by handheld XRF and are primarily relevant for OES users.

Is this supplied as chips or solid form?
This CRM is supplied only as a solid disc for repeatable XRF and OES analysis.
