The Vanta Core normally analyzes an approximately 8 mm spot, providing a larger measurement area for fast alloy identification on plate, pipe, bar stock, and other industrial metals. When greater precision is required, the integrated collimator reduces the X-ray spot size from approximately 8 mm to 3 mm.
This smaller 3 mm measurement area allows the operator to more precisely target the material being analyzed and is particularly useful when testing welds, filler material, small components, narrow features, adjacent alloys, and localized areas of fabricated assemblies where the standard 8 mm spot could incorporate surrounding material.
Precision Camera Targeting for Welds and Small Features
The Vanta Core includes an inline micro aiming camera that makes it easy to precisely position the analyzer over welds, small components, and other specific areas of interest.
The live camera image is displayed directly on the Vanta's screen with an on-screen targeting circle showing where the X-ray beam will hit the sample. Instead of estimating the measurement location, the operator can position the targeting circle directly over the weld or feature they want to analyze before beginning the test.
This becomes particularly valuable when using the 3 mm collimated X-ray spot. The combination of the smaller measurement area and visual targeting allows operators to isolate specific areas while reducing the amount of surrounding material included in the measurement. For weld testing, this makes it easier to target the weld itself, filler material, or adjacent base metal with greater precision.
The Vanta Core also includes a 5 megapixel macro camera for capturing a wider view of the sample and documenting the material being tested.
