Premium Vanta M-Series XRF for Mining & Geochemical Analysis

This factory-refurbished Olympus Vanta M-Series (VMR) handheld XRF analyzer is an exceptionally well-equipped configuration built for mining, mineral exploration, and advanced geochemical analysis. Combining a large-area silicon drift detector (SDD), 50 kV excitation, GeoChem REE, 3-Beam GeoChem, integrated camera, and collimator, this analyzer provides the hardware and analytical capabilities needed for demanding field XRF applications.

This is not a basic geochemistry configuration. The analyzer is loaded with both standard and specialized mining methods, providing broad elemental coverage for conventional exploration targets while adding dedicated rare earth element capability and an expanded GeoChem suite that includes tellurium (Te), gold (Au), and palladium (Pd).

For exploration programs evaluating everything from light elements and base metals to precious metals and rare earth elements, this Vanta M-Series provides an unusually broad range of analytical capabilities in a single handheld XRF.

Loaded GeoChem Configuration

The Vanta M-Series is Olympus' premium handheld XRF platform, and this configuration takes advantage of that performance with multiple analytical methods specifically suited to mining and exploration.

The analyzer includes both GeoChem REE 2-Beam and GeoChem 3-Beam methods. Together, these provide the flexibility to screen geological samples across a wide elemental range while also targeting selected rare earth elements.

The result is a handheld XRF well suited for applications including mineral exploration, geochemical mapping, drill core and rock analysis, soil and sediment screening, ore characterization, pathfinder element analysis, and field evaluation of mineralized zones.

GeoChem REE – 2-Beam Rare Earth Element Analysis

The included GeoChem REE 2-Beam mode adds dedicated rare earth element capability to this Vanta M-Series, making it particularly useful for exploration programs where REE mineralization is a target.

REE elements available in this mode include: La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd.

This specialized method complements the analyzer's broader GeoChem capabilities, allowing exploration teams to screen samples for selected lanthanides directly in the field while simultaneously maintaining access to the conventional elemental suite needed for general mineral exploration.

GeoChem – 3-Beam with Expanded Element Suite

The included GeoChem 3-Beam mode provides broad elemental coverage for rocks, ores, drill core, soils, sediments, powders, and other geological materials. Multiple excitation conditions allow the analyzer to optimize measurement across different portions of the XRF spectrum rather than attempting to measure the entire elemental range under a single set of conditions.

For mining applications, this provides coverage ranging from important light and major elements through transition metals, pathfinder elements, heavy metals, and other exploration targets.

Light and major elements include: Mg, Al, Si, P, S, K, Ca.

Transition, heavy, and exploration elements include: Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Ba, W, Hg, Pb, Bi, Th, U, Te, Au, Pd.

The addition of Te, Au, and Pd to this analyzer's GeoChem configuration is especially noteworthy for mining and exploration customers interested in precious-metal and associated mineralization. Combined with its conventional geochemical suite and dedicated REE method, this creates an unusually versatile handheld exploration XRF.

50 kV Excitation & Large-Area Silicon Drift Detector

At the heart of this analyzer is the premium Vanta M-Series hardware platform.

The VMR configuration uses a large-area silicon drift detector (SDD) paired with a 4-watt X-ray tube capable of excitation energies up to 50 kV. This combination provides the analytical foundation required for high-performance handheld XRF measurements across a broad elemental range.

The large-area SDD provides a larger active detector area for collecting X-ray fluorescence signals, supporting strong count rates and efficient data collection. For demanding geological applications, where elemental concentrations and sample matrices can vary substantially from one measurement to another, detector performance is an important part of achieving useful field results.

The analyzer's 50 kV maximum excitation is equally important for advanced geochemistry. Higher-energy excitation expands the instrument's ability to efficiently excite higher-energy elemental lines and supports the broader elemental coverage required for mining, exploration, and heavy-element analysis.

Combined with automatically selected beam filtration and multi-beam analytical methods, the Vanta M-Series can change measurement conditions during a test to better optimize the analysis for different groups of elements.

Designed for Field Exploration

Handheld XRF has become an important screening and decision-making tool for mineral exploration because it allows geological teams to generate elemental data while samples are still in the field.

This Vanta M-Series can be used to rapidly evaluate rocks, outcrops, drill core, soils, sediments, ore samples, concentrates, and prepared geological samples. Depending on the exploration program, XRF data can be used to identify geochemical trends, evaluate mineralized zones, screen large sample populations, identify anomalous samples, and help prioritize samples for additional laboratory analysis.

Its combination of standard geochemistry, expanded precious-metal elements, and dedicated REE capability makes this particular analyzer especially attractive for organizations working across multiple commodities or exploration targets.

Rather than purchasing an analyzer optimized around a single narrow application, this Vanta provides a broad geochemical platform that can continue to be useful as projects and target commodities change.

Integrated Camera & Collimator

This Vanta M-Series configuration includes both an integrated camera and collimator, adding useful functionality for geological samples that are heterogeneous or contain small areas of interest.

The integrated camera helps the operator position and document the measurement location, while the collimator can reduce the X-ray measurement area when a smaller analysis spot is required.

For mining and exploration work, this can be particularly useful when evaluating small mineralized features, veins, inclusions, individual areas within drill core, or other localized geological structures where analyzing the full measurement area may not provide the desired information.

More Than a Mining XRF

Although this analyzer is being offered primarily as a premium mining and geochemistry XRF, its installed analytical methods extend considerably beyond GeoChem.

Alloy Plus – Including Light Elements: Provides alloy identification and quantitative metals analysis with light-element capability, allowing the analyzer to also support PMI, alloy verification, and metals identification.

Precious Metals: Adds a dedicated analytical method for precious-metal alloys, providing an additional application-specific option beyond the Au and Pd capabilities included in this analyzer's expanded GeoChem configuration.

Soil: Provides an analytical method optimized for environmental and soil screening, useful when exploration or mining projects also require environmental metals analysis.

Lead Paint: Adds a dedicated method for XRF lead paint analysis.

These additional modes significantly expand what can be done with the analyzer, but its primary strength remains its unusually comprehensive mining and geochemical configuration.

One XRF for REE, Precious Metals & General Mineral Exploration

The strongest reason to consider this particular Vanta M-Series is the combination of capabilities normally associated with several different exploration requirements.

For general geochemistry, the analyzer provides broad multi-beam elemental coverage extending from important light elements through transition and heavy elements.

For rare earth exploration, the dedicated GeoChem REE method adds La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, and Gd capability.

For precious-metal exploration, this unit's expanded GeoChem configuration includes Te, Au, and Pd in addition to the broader geochemical and pathfinder element suite.

All of this is supported by the premium Vanta M-Series hardware platform with its large-area SDD, 50 kV excitation, integrated camera, and collimator.

That combination makes this a particularly compelling handheld XRF for exploration groups that don't want to be limited to a single commodity or geological application.
