Description
Rent the Olympus Vanta C-Series Handheld XRF Analyzer to measure metal coating thicknesses up to 20 microns with precision and repeatability in only a few seconds. Designed for field or lab use, this analyzer provides non-destructive thickness measurements for coatings such as zinc, nickel, chromium, tin, and copper — directly on metal substrates.
The Vanta C-Series combines Olympus’s proven premium 50 kV Rhodium X-ray tube and large-area SDD detector with Coating Method software, enabling accurate, multi-layer coating thickness measurements in seconds.
Performance
Using Olympus’s Coating Method, the Vanta C-Series can quantify up to three layers of metallic or non-metallic coatings on diverse substrates (metal, plastic, glass, or wood). Each layer is measured in microns, with an approximate detection range from sub-micron to 20 µm, depending on the coating element and substrate composition
It measures heavy and light elements alike — from titanium (Ti) to lead (Pb) — giving manufacturers and finishers reliable control over plating, galvanizing, and corrosion-protection processes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What types of coatings can be measured?
A: The Vanta C-Series can measure metallic coatings such as zinc, nickel, chromium, copper, tin, and silver on various substrates. It can also measure precious-metal plating like gold and palladium layers.
Q: What is the maximum thickness it can measure?
A: The maximum thickness varies by element, typically ranging from 10 to 20 microns (µm) depending on the coating composition and substrate
Q: How many layers can it measure at once?
A: Up to three distinct coating layers can be measured in a single analysis. Each layer must be thin enough to allow X-rays to escape from the bottom layer to the detector.
Q: Do I need to perform a calibration?
A: The analyzer comes factory-calibrated, but you can optionally perform a simple one-point calibration using a certified reference sample to fine-tune accuracy for your specific coating setup.
Q: Can it also perform alloy sorting and metal ID?
A: Yes — in addition to coating thickness measurements, the Vanta C-Series offers full Alloy ID mode for metal identification and sorting.
