What Sets the X-505 Apart for RoHS
The lightest handheld XRF ever made At 2.98 lbs with battery, the X-505 is the lightest analyzer in the SciAps line and the lightest handheld XRF instrument available. For inspection teams running high volumes of samples throughout the day, weight is not a minor detail - it directly affects how long a team can work without fatigue and how consistently they hold the instrument on target. Less weight means better ergonomics, better positioning on small components, and more samples screened per shift.
Narrow form factor for tight test locations The X-505 measures 8.5 x 9.5 x 2.4 inches - notably more compact than most handheld XRF analyzers. The narrow, slender profile allows access to test locations that wider instruments cannot reach. For inline inspection on populated circuit boards, connectors in tight assemblies, or small components in consumer products, this matters.
20 mm² SDD detector with 6-position filter wheel The X-505 uses a 20 mm² silicon drift detector, delivering high count rates and strong detection limits across the full range of RoHS elements. Combined with a 6-position primary beam filter wheel, the instrument optimizes signal-to-background performance for lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, and bromine in both polymer and alloy matrices without operator input.
5W X-ray tube at 50 kV for RoHS For RoHS applications the X-505 runs a 5-watt, 50 kV Au anode X-ray tube - the appropriate excitation source for reliable detection of restricted substances across plastic and metal sample types.
Excellent heat management for all-day operation The X-505 is specifically designed for continuous operation in hot environments without throttling or downtime due to overheating. For high-volume inspection programs in manufacturing or warehouse environments where ambient temperatures are elevated, this is a meaningful operational advantage.
Rear-facing 2.7-inch display The X-505 display faces the operator rather than the sample - a practical design choice for inspection work where the analyzer is held against a surface or component. Results are readable in all lighting conditions with reversible light/dark mode.
4 mm native beam spot Like all SciAps X-series analyzers, the X-505 achieves a 4 mm beam spot through instrument geometry without a collimator - preserving full X-ray intensity while allowing more precise component targeting than a standard wide-beam instrument.
Android platform with full connectivity Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and USB are all built in. Results can be printed or emailed directly from the instrument. Cloud data management and SciAps Profile Builder PC software integration are supported. The RoHS app is fully configurable - pass/fail thresholds are adjustable and elements like antimony (Sb) or nickel (Ni) can be added as compliance requirements change.
